* this is akiko kiyama s 4th full-length album, stemming from two years of exploration outside her established dance floor inclinations, boiling down her sound to its essential organic grooves, intricate harmonies and eery atmospheres. the nature of her organic grooves lies within inter-sound gaps, carefully crafted to lead the listener through time distortions and into an hypnotic solitary world where music is breathed, not played. a sound imprinted of a definitely human character and vigor, yet sometimes ambiguous, fleeting, and capricious. from her peculiar sense of harmony and rhythm, and a meticulous minimal approach to composition, emerges rich lyrical lines forming a unique musical universe that few has had the chance to hear yet.

the avant garde movement largely influenced katsoulis early compositions. after which, he turned to minimalism, applying elements of jazz and rock into that genre. since the 80s, the use of technology became gradually apparent in his compositions, whist not diminishing the importance of the human factor and the creative involvement of the performer.

in today’s increasingly barren rock and roll landscape, ulan bator stand as beacons of explorative songwriting. formed in paris in 1993 by amaury cambuzat (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and olivier manchion (bass), the band’s atmospheric approach to composition has consistently yielded guitar-driven avant-rock at once hypnotic and untamed. and while their sound has developed in a variety of directions – often in relationship to changing line-ups and various collaborations, including with krautrock legends faust and swans michael gira – ulan bator’s resist simple categorization: kraut-y repetition, post-rock guitar flourishes, kosmische synth work, intimate whispering and pounding drums have all taken an audible lead throughout their now twenty-year career.

east wall was an italian electronic dark wave band started by fabrizio chiari (ex keyboardist of kirlian camera) and wilma notari in 1982. “silence” was self released by the band in 1991.

six years ago, claremont 56 boss paul ‘mudd’ murphy tried to track down via his dj network, former freeez band-members john rocca and andy stennett to license pink rhythm’s “melodies of love”, for one of the originals compilations. they didn’t show up on the radar.
earlier this year, however, out of the blue, stennett got in touch with murphy. for much of the last two decades, he’d been living on a remote island off orkney, but was now pursuing music again.

on the flip, i am not him is a filter-squelching, bass-slapping meander into green haze territory, that finally erupts into a swagger of familiar detroit-channeled drums and steady faded pads. outernet grumbles up the black-hole cosmic radiation with an industrial-tinged number that plunges the depths of deep-space. proper growling and clanging synths to add the right amount of raw, just at the end.

ursprünglich war nämlich schon 1998 ein album mit diesem titel als bootleg-variante erschienen. dabei handelt es sich jedoch fälschlicherweise um die aufnahme einer show aus manchester, statt aus der royal albert hall.

in keeping with the labels 303 based theme, things kick off with blue flame, which sees dj overdose delve into serious 4x4 territory with angelic like synth stabs, jackin’ beats and gnarly acid lines. bare bonus bounce is a stripped back version of blue flame that retains the vocal samples, funk and jacking 4x4 beats. the flip side kicks off with acid lovely, a hefty 303 laden electro work out that certainly lives up to its name. the ep finishes off with work is work which retains the vocal samples of blue flame laid out over a raw and gritty electro beat.
